Henry loves being in the forest, and we're lucky enough to be surrounded with some of the country's most beautiful national parks and wildlife areas. Northern Arizona is a great place to be all year round, but this time of the year is especially gorgeous, as nature begins to wake up a little bit from our cold winter, and we get to enjoy those first glimpses of spring, however fleeting they may be.
Lately I've been trying to do something new with Henry every day, whether we just try out some new art materials at home, or go on a little adventure like this. It's a fun challenge to come up with new ideas and I can't even wait until the weather totally warms up and we can do a lot more exploring.
xoxo

My mom used to do similar daily adventures with me when I was young & they're honestly some of my best memories.
ReplyDeleteHenry's outfit is adorable, btw.
Thanks Lily! :) My Mom was the same way and I agree, those are some of the best memories for sure!
DeleteThis and the above comment from Lily has challenged me to get out more with my boys, even with the non-stop Portland drizzle!
ReplyDeleteIt's SO hard to get motivated when it's icky out. It's been snowy and cold for weeks and we have had some crazy cabin fever so it's so nice to get out in nature. Hoping the drizzle ends soon!
DeleteOh my god, how cute! I loved going outdoors with my parents when I was a kid, I had the best times (except for when it was really, really freezing, then I cried all the time, sitting on my sleigh, being pulled by dad - but I always got a really big hot chocolate when we got home!) I remember Easter walks, summer half-naked walks with jumping in ponds, collecting tadpoles in glasses and taking them home ...
ReplyDeleteI'm sure Henry will remember these adventure days as clearly as we all do, and he'll be very greatful for not having spent half his childhood in front of the tv :)
Lots of love!
Maria
Aww thanks for taking the time to leave such a sweet and thoughtful comment Maria! I love those memories you shared.

The cold and the snow is got to be better than the flooding we are having here? But I too will take from your example a try to go on more adventures with Jarvis.

Flooding? Oh no! I hope you guys are ok!
DeleteThis is a beautiful little boy. Your adventure looks great. Older people always seem to be reminding you they don't stay small for young and it's so hard to believe them when you have a precious little baby/toddler/ kid face beaming up at you, but holy smokes, those old folks are right. Enjoy your lovely afternoons.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much Rachel! :) And yes, sadly they are SO right. I can't believe Henry's already well past two. Slow down, time...
DeleteIt looks like a beautiful place to explore!
ReplyDeleteIt really is! :)
DeleteMan I'm jealous! The temperatures here have been its-too-cold-Im-not-going-outside-maybe-I-can-skip-class-too-and-stay-in-my-nice-and-warm-apartment-until-spring. But I'm dying to get outside and walk and explore and find new things in my new city and find new hiking trails and other things to do outside.
ReplyDeleteI love that you're trying to do something new with him everyday! Keeps things interesting trying to think of what to do with him.
I love getting outside as much as possible too- counting down until the spring! I hope you enjoy a little bit of warmth soon!
DeleteI'm moving soon to a small town west of Portland that sits right at the bottom of the foothills... I can't wait to get up into the woods and the mountains on a regular basis! This city girl craves the small-town life. :)
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh...SO LUCKY! I haven't ever been to Portland but it's one of Hank's favorite places in the world. I can't wait to get there one day and explore.
DeleteI live in Northern Arizona too. We moved here three years ago and I still feel like we haven't explored it enough. I homeschool my three and have been trying to take them on more little adventures to explore our home. :)
ReplyDeleteOh that's so cool Alicia! Where in N. Arizona do you live?
DeleteYou're making me want to hit the trails :) It's so beautiful there. ♥Lindsay
ReplyDeleteIt really is! Wish we could hit the trails together! <3

ReplyDeletehe looks like a mini of your dad!
ReplyDeleteYou know what? SO many people have been saying that lately! :) I'll tell him - I'm sure it will make his day! <3
DeleteCute! I can't wait till it gets a little bit nicer here to take my daughter on a hike.
ReplyDeleteYes! I am seriously wishing for warmer weather to arrive soon!
DeleteYou sound like a wonderful mother. Your boy is lucky to have you home to take him on such adventures whenever the moment strikes. Also, you're teaching him the value of getting outside and doing something! It looks like it was a blast exploring the woods. What beautiful scenery to take in!
ReplyDeleteAww Jessica, thank you. So sweet of you to say! :) Thank you for reading.
